Good Afternoon

Builder Swears On Oath That The Information Written Here In This Article Was Not Illegally Obtained.

1. Body Bio Clocks.
2. Built once but never again.
3. The builder that actually completed (I mean it's actually finished) his own home.

Body Bio Clocks & Electronics - Your concrete floor slab could be bad for health.

What is this all about I hear you ask. Well it's in regard to underfloor concrete heating and steel reinforcing in concrete floor slabs. Very little is known about this subject and it's probably just another case of the government saying, "lets not tell the public, they'll only just panic". Since day one on this planet evolution has designed animal and mammal bodies so that they purposely go into sleep, not just to rest our body physically but to allow body to disperse body toxins. As life has evolved our bodies have developed to keep in time with the earths magnetic fields. That's the process of everlution. If it sounds like science fiction it's not. Apparently our bodies need sleep mostly to rejuvenate and clean out body toxins generated over the course of a day and it does this in step with what known as the schuman frequency. Most of us suffer from jet lag and apparently space travellers suffer as well from the same sort of thing, it comes from being out of step with this schuman frequency.

It was explained to me a little bit like this. If you imagine that our body is like a 44 gallon drum and that's the maximum amount of body toxins our bodies should be aloud to generate or accumulate before things can start to go wrong within our system. During the course of the day when we are awake our body may accumulate say only 33 gallons of toxin and therefore during the course of our sleep our bodies can easily cope and disperse the toxins back to a very low level ready for the next day. However if for some reason the body is unable to properly disperse the toxins and rejuvenation can not be carried out fully, over a period of time the 44 gallon drum may fill or even overflow. When this happens what's known as "free radicles" start to build up in the body and they are the chaps that can be responsible for abnormal body cell growth and that's what causes cancer.

So where does this all fit in with concrete floor slabs. Well it's been proved that the steel reinforcing mesh in the concrete has an effect of defusing the earths schuman frequency and interfering with the bodies bio clock and sleeping patten. The reinforcing steel mesh can also have an effect of magnifying or changing the schuman frequency to our detriment. I wouldn't go as far as saying that sleeping over a concrete floor that has steel reinforcing will cause cancer but it's the sort of thing that can trigger the process to begin. Thankfully the solution is very simple as they often are once you are aware of them. There is a relatively new product on the market called "Fibre Mesh" and the cost difference between fibre mesh and steel reinforcing mesh is almost nil. Fibre Mesh is made from fibre glass and comes in strands and looks a bit like sheep skin wool fibres. Fibre Mesh is now an approved substitute for steel reinforcing in concrete floor slabs and we use it quite often. Perimeter foundation steel reinforcing rods have the same but lesser effect on our bio clock. I understand that moves have been made to introduce the same technology to avoid steel rods in footings for domestic use. Steel rods are being replaced for fibreglass rods. All timber based floor products like particle board floors or tongue and groove floors are safe. The character homes that we specialise in tend to suite an elevated floor and wooden veranda decks so about 90% of the work we do have timber floors.

By the way, steel reinforcing has the most effect on our body during sleep, with a much lesser effect on our bodies while we are awake or in the work place. People who work in a multi storey building with steel reinforcing surrounding them are placing themselves at very high risk.

There are other things I'd like to make you aware of that are most often simple to change or avoid. How much do you enjoy your electric blanket? Through it out, electric blankets are one of the worst appliances, even when they are turned off. Do you use and electric radio alarm clock with blue or green lighting crystals that show the time? Move it to the other side of the bedroom or through it out and replace it with a dial face an battery operated. Does the back of your computer point through a wall on to some ones bed, maybe a child sleep in the next room? Move your computer. Micro wave ovens, we should keep well away from them while in use. I know we don't sleep near micro wave ovens but the are still dangerous and cover your cell phone with a micro shield. Micro shields can be purchased from most cell phone shops or they can get them. We know the people are starting to develop tumours in their heads from using cell phones.

I'm raising these points to make you aware of what we subject ourselves to without knowing it. We don't need to panic but just slowly take the steps to make changes in our life over the next 5 - 10 years. As example the next time you purchase a new bed, buy one without an electric blanket built in and try to avoid the inner sprung matrass, the coiled springs in the inner sprung matrass also effect the schuman frequency. Building a new home is best time to make slight adjustments to your plans and most often it won't cost the new home builder any more, it's just knowing what to do and how to design it.

I mentioned earlier in this article about under slab or concrete floor heating. Most of us think that under slab heating must be done with electric cables running through the slab and of course, like the electric blanket, this type of heating only compounds the steel reinforcing problem in relation to our sleeping bodies. The simple solution to this is to use hot water. Similar cost. In this instance water is heated by a boiler, usually using gas or electricity, and pumps the hot water through pipes laid in the concrete although the water pipes should still avoid the sleeping areas. No steel reinforcing, no electric cables, so simple and safe.
Of course several months ago I told you the horror storey about the land agent that tried to sell a young couple about 5 acres directly under high tension power cable wires. Stay well away from properties or building sites that have overhead high tension power cables closer than 75m. Remember I did say that if you ever want an un-bias opinion on a property you either want to purchase or build on (obligation free), regardless of where you are in the country, it would be my pleasure to give you the benefit of my experience. Who knows, the information I give you could be very powerful when it comes to negotiating the terms and conditions of purchasing a property. Or could save you heaps in assisting you to locate or position your proposed new home on the section our block you already have. Just phone me or leave a message any time on 0800 MOSS BROS (66 77 27).

Just one last comment on the dangerous rays that our bodies are continually bombarded with. Remember the pre-school's in Auckland that were fighting the countries largest telephone company (10 points for guessing who) to stop them putting up a transmitter near their kindergarten. The school does have a very strong case. Unfortunately it's a fact that before the introduction of cell phones in this country (and in other countries around the world) the safety levels for transmitting frequencies (like radar, radio, RT's and television etc) was set at a level by our government to protect it's citizens from dangerous levels of rays flying about. Then big business with it's arrogant self interest for even more hundreds of millions, wanted to introduce the cell phone but it had one big problem to over come, and you guessed it. Make the government lower the safety standards or levels. And they got their way. Frequency levels were increased to include what was required for cell phones and their transmission. Yes I do have a cell phone but it is one of the older ones that has a separate hand set away from the dangerous areas such as round the aerial, very similar to the car phone set-up. As a sum up, there are easy, simple and cost effective ways to provide more protection to ourselves and our loved ones as long as we aware of our options and we want to do something about it.

Built once but never again. How to avoid the stress.

Interesting statistics, only one in four people who have a new home built would do it again. The main reason, to much stress brought on by a bad experience from the contractor. Why then, do so many projects turn sour when the idea of building a new home can be so appealing and exciting. One of the main reasons that statistics have revealed is the comment," the contractors performance didn't meet the owners expectations". So if the expectations of the employer (proposed new home owner) weren't met, then one of the first questions you must ask yourself as the person who wants a new home built is, "what sorts of standards do I expect and where do I find a company that can deliver. I think it's fair to say that most people don't know very much at all about the procedures of building a new building or have the knowledge required to competently complete a new home project, for if they did there would be no need for companies such as our. I think we can accept that by remaining employed in the field we have the most experience in and employing a professional in the field we require expertise is usually far more cost effective.

Building a new home for most of us is usually one of our largest purchases and of course it's only natural to want to make our dollar stretch as far as possible. However most reputable building companies won't even price or tender a project if there are more than three companies asked to tender, because if there are more than three then the tenders are simply being compared against price and it then becomes a sad but true joke or statement "the cheapest tender has made the biggest pricing mistake". In fact there are companies I won't even tender against because I know that the only thing that makes them happy is providing the cheapest price. Thankfully most of us can see the cut prices cowboys in most industry and know how to avoid them.

Prices should moderate and fair. Its always possible to obtain a cheaper price but it should be obvious that the less you pay the poorer the quality and service. Look for a company that competes on quality and service (in particular, after sales service) not price. The disappointment of poor quality remains long after the joy of a low price. As young kids, our mothers always told us, "In life darling, you get what you pay for". As adults, we know this to be true. In the early days of my company, we use to dread clients phoning up with complaints after a job was completed. Because we had competed on supplying the cheapest price we knew we couldn't afford to fix things, and if we just ignore the complaint, maybe the client will get sick of being put off and give up. Does this story sound familiar to you? These days, every 6 - 12 months after completion of your new home, one of our team will contact you to make sure you are still totally satisfied and happy.

My tip is, If you are calling for tenders, get three or less and then only choose your preferred contractor once you have obtained the names and phone numbers of at least three of the contractors past clients. Ring them and ask the following tell all questions, because the answers will help you easily choose the right person or company.

1. Would you employ them again?
2. Did they keep their promises?
3. Did they repair faults promptly?
4. What was the after sales service like?

It would also be my suggestion that you made the effort to view any work the contractor has done in the past. It's this type of home/leg work that will place you in the 25% bracket of happy and delighted new home owners.

The builder that actually completed (I mean it's actually finished) his own home

I mentioned in a news letter last year that my wife and I were in the process of building a new home (and what a superb job the builders did) over here in Masterton and I'm pleased to inform you that even though it's a builders home, it has been totally finished. Most tradesmen or self-employed people have a shocking reputation for not completing home projects where the chore is the same as their usual work day employment. You now what I mean, plumbers have leaking or dripping taps, painters have torn wall paper and un-painted scotias etc. But I look back it my project and ask myself and my wife what would have done differently. From both of our points of view, we didn't pay enough attention to the location of some of the light switches or electrical fixtures. It's only now when we are living in the finished product that positioning of only a few of the light switches could have been put in more convenient places, but otherwise we're both absolutely delighted and wouldn't change a thing.
